The Rebate Center has various ways of making the experience difficult, and I'm sure there are many buyers
who don't have the time or patience and just
give up... It is 2 1/2 months later and I have no cheque
I feel sorry for anyone who does not have a lot of time, persistence, access to a fax, excellent grasp of written and spoken English and lots of confidence. The desire to just give in and give up is overwhelming
I will not give up and will eventually get a rebate but do not understand why it is taking all of this effort unless the hidden agenda is to wear people out. I have to say vs. other businesses (where your rebate is just thrown into the wild and you pray you get results) the easy rebate is definetly the way to go. I would say the realistic average is about 6-8 weeks. The fact that you have a website to login to and view the status of your rebate is nice. I highly recommend to use Staples Easy Rebates for that last reason. Certain retailers are claiming they are doing away with Mail in Rebates all together-- but people with limited ability to think things through on the repurcussions of that don't realize that this will ultimately result in less savings. Instead of a $50 MIR you would get 5 dollars instantly off-- and that's it. I did the easy rebate online and recieved a confirmation e-mail and another with a tracking no. and was told I should receive my rebate in 4 weeks.
3 weeks later I was clearing up some email files and came across the emails and decided to check on the rebate so I went to their site and used my tracking number which wasn't recognized, hmmmm. I then tried the other option by phone and last name. That didn't work either.
I then sent an email to Staples customer service and recieved a reply that said they couldn't find me in their system.
I then tried to redo the rebate but when it came time to input the item bar code I recieved an unexplained error and couldn't proceed.
I started calling them and the first rep was rude with the attitude "what can I do" and just kept repeating my info wasn't in their system and no explanations.
I decided to get all my info together before I called back including copies of the confirmation & tracking number e-mails they sent me and all the other rebate forms and reciepts I had thankfully tucked away.
My next call to customer service must have been to New Delhi and the person could not spell or understand my last name. I hung up and called again and got through to someone who took all my info and I told them I had copies of everything.
I was told the info was resubmitted, got a new tracking no., but got no explanation or apology just another 4-6 week wait, I will be checking on it again.
If I had not checked the rebate when I did I probably would have been SOL.
I also saved the emails which I think ultimatly got their attention.
I think it is a huge scam!
C'mon! How could they lose all my info, email address, name , zip ,blah blah yet send me a confirmation and tracking no. ?

Staples is an unethical company that is trying to prevent its customers from receiving rebates. That is clear to me. They seem to be only trying to keep me busy until the deadline expires to get the rebates.
